How long? Never a dull moment for local shipping expert

Size isn’t everything, but it does matter when your job is to ship something enormous to the other side of the world, as Dave Tester of Mail Boxes Etc. in Brighton knows only too well.

Dave and his team offer specialist packing and worldwide shipping to local auction houses and are regularly faced with fragile, irreplaceable and priceless cargo. One of their biggest customers is Gorringes of Lewes, the leading fine art and antiques auction house in the south east. Two lots from a recent Gorringes sale presented Dave with a challenge – a 51” swordfish bill and two Japanese spears at 86” long.

“These lots are going to two different buyers, and I’m sure they have plenty of room to display them,” says Dave, who once worked at a Bond Street auction house. “Wrapping them securely for shipping was certainly an experience, but we are used to coping with unusually shaped and oversized items. We work closely with many of the local auction houses and dealers to get every lot, great or small, to its destination quickly and safely.”

January 2010 marks the fourteenth anniversary for Mail Boxes Etc. in Brighton. As well as their packing and shipping expertise (which is available to anyone, not just those with something wild and wacky to deliver), Dave and his team offer a raft of services to the local business community, including printing, mailbox rental, OS mapping services and virtual office solutions. “Since opening, we’ve seen steady growth, even during the recession,” says Dave. “With the fourteenth anniversary coming up, we’re looking forward to developing the business further as the economy picks up in 2010.”
