Lot 41

A World War I fitted case commemorating Lieutenant Eric Gordon Waters, Royal Flying Corps Enclosing a pocket watch, the back inscribed 2LT E G WATERS 6 SQN KIA JAN 24TH 1917 with an R F C cap badge and two R F C lapel badges. Note: According to the Commonwealth War Grave Commission's records on 24 January 1917 Waters was flying his BE2g 7175 whilst escorting a photographic patrol when his plane was attacked and shot up and he was shot in the back and head and killed. His observer, Sergeant Slingsby, climbed into the pilot's cockpit and succeeded in landing between Vlamertinge and Ypres and he survived. It is believed that these items were amongst various personal belongings returned to Waters's parents who lived in Forest Row, East Sussex. Waters is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium (Grave reference X-A-1) and there is also a gravestone in the graveyard at Holy Trinity church, Forest Row, East Sussex.

A World War II German Officer's leather trench coat Provenance: By family decent. Formerly the property of Dr Hermann Ferdinand Voss who served in the Wehrmact as a doctor on the Eastern Front. After the war he went on to develop a neural therapy treating many famous people including the South African cardiac surgeon Christiaan Barnand and published a book 'Deshalb Neuraltherapie' (That's why Neural Therapy) in 1968.
