Lot 2004

Circa 1869 Wax Over Pumpkin Head Doll, with moulded blond hair, glass eyes, painted cheeks and lips, on a fabric body with carved lower arms and hands, and legs with blue painted boots, wearing a white cotton robe, 82cm Provenance; this doll was given to Frances Elizabeth Turvey by her Aunt Mary on her 6th birthday, 25 December 1869. Mary had bought the doll in Bath and dressed her herself. Frances' daughter Frances Martha was only allowed to play with the doll at Christmas whilst a child. The doll has stayed in the family when in 1967 she was given to her nephew Alec James Burford for his three daughters, Alison Mary, Susan Jane and Sarah Ann. Pair of Late 19th Century China Head Dolls, fully clothed in pink cotton long sleeved dresses and undergarments, painted faces and moulded hair, china lower arms and legs on a fabric body, both in wooden hinged boxes covered with coloured paper scraps and the dates 1899, each doll has various accessories including matching coats and muffs, then other items include bonnets, scrap book, blankets, undergarments etc, each box measures 39cm by 20cm by 15cm (2). Doll 1 - couple of small pitting marks to forehead and paint flakes the hair. arms ok. One foot has been reglued, the other is missing. Doll 2 - chip/rub to the end of the nose, tiny paint flakes and scratches to the hair. Both feet are missing, one leg may be a replacement. Other items as viewed.

Lot 2009

19th Century Dolls House Dolls, comprising a small bisque doll with moulded hair and painted face, bisque lower arms and legs, remains of a striped dress with green trim, 10cm, another of the same model; bisque doll with blond curly moulded hair, painted face, lower bisque arms and legs, possibly in original purple silk dress, 14cm; and three other smaller examples; other items include a satinwood type inlaid hand mirror, bisque figure of a seated dog, gilt metal hinged extending photo album and a photograph frame (11). Two similar bisque dolls - both missing one foot, clothing is torn and very worn, one has chip to head and scuff to nose. Blond curly doll - slight scuffing to face and shoulders, one arm appears to be on the wrong way round, dress very worn.
