Early Zulu Warriors Fighting Club / Knobkerrie, very interesting and early example with the head of the club well worn, remains of the facetted design work can be seen to the head. The shaft has the remains of a section of hide covering. Age cracked and worn. 66 ½ cms in length.

1870’s Period Zulu Warriors / Executioners Knobkerrie, fantastic example of a typical knobkerrie from the time of the Anglo Zulu war. The club has very large and heavy bulbous end which has been fitted with two metal boot studs which have been flattened, probably removed from a British soldiers boots from the battle field. Straight shaft with slightly tapered end. 64cms in length.

Lot 48

High Ranking Zulu Tribal Leaders Shield “Ihawu”, interesting example of the small type Zulu hide shield covered in brown and white fur. The shield is complete with its original staff which the top is carved with symbols, indicating distinction amongst a tribe. Mounted on the top of the staff is a piece of a continental pocket watch, this more than likely was taken from a battlefield from the dead body of a British soldier during the Anglo Zulu war. Small area of the staff missing and some small areas of fur loss but otherwise an interesting example. Shield measures 66 x 37cms, staff 125cms.

Lot 49

Zulu Warriors War Shield “Umbumbuluzo”, good Anglo Zulu war period example of the smaller type war shield used by Zulu Warriors in battle. The hide shield with white fur and brown spots covering. Complete with its original wooden staff to the reverse. Small bayonet or spear penetration hole to the bottom corner of the shield. 108 ½ x 62cms. Some areas of fur loss to the shield. The shields with white fur were used by the Zulu regiments which fought at the Battles of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift.
